After a ski weekend in California's eastern Sierra Mountains, 25-year-old entrepreneur Monica Larsen takes off in her new plane for Southern California. But she gets lost in a freak snowstorm and she crashes into the wintery landscape. Three days later, a wounded and dazed Monica wanders into a local lodge. She tells the story of being saved by a man named Buddy Wilton.

Only, Buddy has been missing for three years.

No one believes Monica's story except for one man: the shy, reclusive rancher Buck Wilton, Buddy's younger brother. He has always wondered about the suspicious circumstances of Buddy's disappearance-and he is fascinated by the strength and courage of this beautiful woman. As Buck untangles the mysteries of his family, Monica begins to understand her own tale of survival. The answers bring them together-but also threaten to drive them apart.

Patricia Morgan is a California native, born in Hollywood on Avocado Street. Her early years were split between the beaches of Long Beach and the then-rural acres of Orange County. At the University of California, Berkeley, she studied speech communications, then taught English and dramatics in Southern California high schools, touching generations of students. With her husband Tom Morgan, she traveled throughout the state and lived 20 years of summers in the High Sierra. After retirement, she continued her travels beyond the US, including then-Yugoslavia, China, Thailand, Russia, and the United Kingdom. A great lover of words and drama, she has written several novels. She now lives in Sonoma, California.
